About the Museum
Bruce Castle Museum is set in an award-winning Park, Bruce Castle Park, which is a haven of green space for the local urban community. They are both amenities to be proud of and that’s why Friends of Bruce Castle exists to ensure that these jewels in Tottenham continue to be available for use by all.
The park is an oasis of grass and trees, home for birds and squirrels. A well-used precious open space used for walking, playing, football and tennis or just to sit and relax in.
The museum archives hold a rich and unique collection of local history documents and photographs. It is the storehouse of Haringey borough’s heritage and a very important resource for all things Haringey. It is the place to go if you wish to research the area of Haringey you live or work in, see the development of Haringey through a series of maps or a pictorial history of the area you are interested in.
The museum has a wide-ranging schools programme, a lively schedule of family activities, frequently changing exhibitions, and a programme of talks and local history walks, all of which contributed to its winning a Sandford Award for Heritage Education from the prestigious Heritage Education Trust in 2010. However, like all local authority-funded services in the straitened economic circumstances of 2011 and future years, it now faces possible cuts to its funding, cuts which could reduce its staffing levels, shorten the hours it can remain open, and curtail its programme of exhibitions, talks and other activities.
Bruce Castle's support group is therefore needed more now than ever, to lobby the council on its behalf, to support the museum's applications for funding grants to national bodies, to help with the museum's purchase of new acquisitions, to provide volunteers to help with events in the museum and the park. So if you want to help keep this unique community resource in being, please join us. Become a Friend of Bruce Castle - see Membership page for more information.
